Am I eligible to get my taxes filed?If you make more than $67,000 a year and/or meet these requirements: More than five (5) capital gains transactions (i.e. stock sales) Rental income Income from a partnership or trust Depreciation related to business income Multi-state tax forms Form 1040 NR We DO NOT do returns for taxpayers “Married Filing Separate” We will NOT be able to provide you with assistance.

Do I need to make an appointment?UCSB VITA currently accepts appointments made online through our website. We will take appointments FIRST, walk-ins are welcome but we won’t accept new clients 30 minutes before closing.

How long will my tax return take to be completed?Depending on your situation, it can range from less than an hour to more. You should schedule an hour of your time for your return to be prepared, however that does not include waiting time.

Where can I park?We do not validate for parking. Below is a map attached of the parking and buildings from our previous tax filing year.

How are VITA volunteers qualified to file taxes on my behalf?Our VITA volunteers are IRS certified and have gone through extensive tax filing training. Each return is also reviewed by a separate volunteer to ensure there are no mistakes.

How many shifts do I need to sign up for?Volunteers should sign up for three shifts. However, if you are currently unable to sign up for a time, we will be adding more sign up slots in the future depending on the amount of clients.

What if I'm not an Economics or Economics and Accounting Major?We encourage everyone to join even if you're not majoring in Economics or Economics and Accounting! All the necessary training is provided to you by us and there's no need to worry.
